The ruler Vindhyashakti during the period preceding the Gupta Age is associated with which one of the following dynasties?
Explanation
Vindhyashakti was the founder of the Vakataka dynasty, ruling approximately from 250 to 270 CE. This period immediately preceded the rise of the Gupta Empire, which began its significant expansion under Chandragupta I around 319 CE [1]. Vindhyashakti is believed to have been a feudatory of the Satavahanas before establishing an independent kingdom in central India and the Deccan. He is described in the Cave XVI inscription at Ajanta as the 'Vamsaketu' or banner of the Vakataka family. His son and successor, Pravarasena I, further expanded the kingdom and established the capital at Nandivardhana. The Vakatakas remained a major power in the Deccan, eventually forming matrimonial and political alliances with the Guptas, most notably through the marriage of Prabhavatigupta to Rudrasena II.
