Q122 (CAPF/2026) Science & Technology › ICT, AI, Cybersecurity & Emerging Tech

Which one among the following transmission media is best suited for transmission of information over large distance?

Result
Your answer:  ·  Correct: B

Explanation

Optical fibre is the most efficient medium for long-distance communication. Unlike copper-based media (twisted pair or coaxial cables) which suffer from significant signal loss (attenuation) and electromagnetic interference (EMI) over distance, optical fibres transmit data as light pulses through glass or plastic strands. This allows for extremely high bandwidth and minimal signal degradation over hundreds or even thousands of kilometers. Modern transcontinental internet backbones and undersea cables rely almost exclusively on optical fibre technology. In contrast, twisted pair and Ethernet cables (Thick/Thin) are generally restricted to local area networks (LANs) or short-range telephony due to their limited effective range and susceptibility to noise.
