Where is the Vikramkhol Cave located?
Explanation
The Vikramkhol Cave (also spelled Bikramkhol) is a prehistoric archaeological site located in the Jharsuguda district of Odisha, India [1]. Situated within the Lakhanpur Reserve Forest of the Belpahar range, it is approximately 12 km from Belpahar and 35 km from Jharsuguda. The site is a natural rock shelter measuring roughly 37 meters in length and 8 meters in height. It was first discovered in 1933 by the historian K.P. Jayaswal [1]. The cave is renowned for its prehistoric pictographic engravings and paintings, which date back to the Mesolithic and Chalcolithic periods [1]. These inscriptions, written on an uneven rock surface using red ochre and later incised, are considered significant evidence of early human civilization and script development in eastern India.
