The Raichur Doab, a fertile tract of land situated between the Krishna and Tungabhadra rivers, was the primary bone of contention between the Vijayanagara Empire and the Bahmani Kingdom. Both empires sought to control this region due to its immense economic wealth and strategic importance. The conflict over this territory began during the reigns of Harihara I and Bukka I of Vijayanagara and Alauddin Bahman Shah. Apart from the Raichur Doab, the two powers also clashed over the Krishna-Godavari delta (for its fertile soil and ports) and the Konkan or Marathwada country (for control over the spice trade and horse imports). However, the Raichur Doab remained the most frequent and persistent site of military engagements throughout their history.
