Correct:
A
Explanation
The Chinook is a local, warm, and dry wind that blows down the eastern slopes (leeward side) of the Rocky Mountains in North America. It is a type of Foehn wind. As moist air from the Pacific ascends the windward side, it cools and loses moisture; as it descends the eastern slopes, it undergoes adiabatic heating, becoming significantly warmer and drier. Known as the "snow-eater," it can cause rapid temperature rises and melt thick snow cover in a short time.
- Option B describes polar winds like the Blizzard.
- Option C refers to winds like the Buran or Purga in Siberia.
- Option D describes the Harmattan, a dry, dusty wind blowing from the Sahara toward the West African coast.
