The Lokpal of India, the statutory anti-corruption ombudsman, adopted its motto “मा गृधः कस्यस्विद्धनम्” (Ma Gridhah Kasyasvidhanam) in November 2019. The phrase is taken from the first verse of the Isha Upanishad. It translates to “Do not be greedy for anyone’s wealth” or “Do not covet the wealth of others.”

The motto was selected to reflect the institution's mandate to combat corruption and ensure integrity in public life. Along with the motto, a new logo was also unveiled, which symbolizes the ombudsman (judiciary), the people, and the law. While other bodies like the Election Commission focus on democratic participation, the Lokpal's identity is rooted in this ethical injunction against greed and corruption.
