The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), established under the CISF Act, 1968, is a statutory body under the Ministry of Home Affairs. Its primary mandate is to provide security and protection to industrial undertakings, government infrastructure projects, and vital installations.

During industrial unrest such as strikes, agitations, or gheraos, the CISF is responsible for:

• Protecting the property and assets of the undertaking.
• Ensuring the safety of personnel, including escorting officials to safety if requested.
• Assisting the local police in maintaining law and order.
• Maintaining professional and cordial relations with employees to ensure a peaceful environment.

However, the CISF is not authorized to force employees to join work. Compelling labor is a violation of fundamental and legal rights, and the resolution of industrial disputes is the responsibility of the management and labor courts, not a security force.
