Ramendrasundar Trivedi was the Secretary of the Bangiya Sahitya Parishad (Bengal Literary Society) during the beginning of the Swadeshi Movement, serving in that capacity from 1904 to 1911. He was a renowned polymath and played a pivotal role in the anti-partition agitation of 1905. It was Trivedi who proposed the 'Arandhan' (the ritual of not lighting the hearth) as a mark of protest and mourning on 16 October 1905, the day the Partition of Bengal became effective.
