Recently, the WHO has approved the widespread use of the World's first vaccine against which one of the following diseases/infections ?
Explanation
In October 2021, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommended the widespread use of the RTS,S/AS01 (Mosquirix) vaccine, making it the world's first approved vaccine against Malaria. This historic decision was based on results from an ongoing pilot program in Ghana, Kenya, and Malawi that reached more than 800,000 children.
The vaccine acts against Plasmodium falciparum, the deadliest malaria parasite globally and the most prevalent in Africa. In October 2023, the WHO recommended a second malaria vaccine, R21/Matrix-M, to scale up prevention efforts. Currently, there are no WHO-approved vaccines for widespread use against Hepatitis C, Nipah Virus, or Zika Virus, although research and clinical trials for these are ongoing.
