Damin-i-Koh is essentially associated with which of the following tribes of India ?
Explanation
Damin-i-Koh was a large area of land in the Rajmahal Hills (present-day Jharkhand) demarcated by the British colonial government in 1832-33. The British invited the Santhal tribe to settle in this region to clear forests and practice settled agriculture, aiming to increase land revenue. The Santhals were given land grants with the condition that at least one-tenth of the area be cleared and cultivated within the first ten years.
By 1851, the Santhal population in this region had grown significantly. However, increasing exploitation by moneylenders (dikis), high land taxes, and oppressive British administration eventually led to the Santhal Rebellion (Hool) of 1855-56. Other tribes mentioned, such as the Lushai (Mizo Hills), Khasi (Meghalaya), and Toda (Nilgiris), are associated with different geographical regions of India.
