The administration of the English East India Company in India came to an end in—
Explanation
The administration of the English East India Company in India officially ended in 1858 following the Indian Rebellion of 1857 [1]. The British Parliament passed the Government of India Act on August 2, 1858, which transferred the power to govern from the Company to the British Crown [2]. This act abolished the East India Company's administrative role and territories, placing them under the direct responsibility of the sovereign, Queen Victoria [3]. The dual system of control involving the Company's Directors and the Board of Control was replaced by a Secretary of State for India, a member of the British Cabinet assisted by a Council of 15 [2]. While the Company was formally dissolved later in 1874, its ruling and administrative functions in India were terminated by the 1858 Act [t3][t6].
