Pakyong Airport is located in
Explanation
Pakyong Airport is the first and only operational airport in the Himalayan state of Sikkim [1]. Located at Pakyong village, it is situated approximately 31 to 35 kilometers south of Gangtok, the state capital [1]. Inaugurated in 2018, it was recognized as India's 100th operational airport and is one of the highest airports in the country, sitting at an elevation of approximately 4,500 to 4,600 feet above sea level. The airport is a greenfield project spread over 400 hectares and was constructed by the Airports Authority of India to improve connectivity to the landlocked state [2]. Before its opening, travelers primarily relied on Bagdogra Airport in West Bengal to reach Sikkim. It serves as a critical gateway for tourism and economic development in the Eastern Himalayas.
