Explanation
The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) was established on December 8, 1985, following the signing of its Charter in Dhaka. While the first summit took place in Bangladesh, the SAARC Secretariat was formally established in Kathmandu, Nepal, on January 16, 1987 [3]. It was inaugurated by King Birendra Bir Bikram Shah of Nepal and serves as the central administrative body responsible for coordinating and monitoring the implementation of SAARC activities [3]. The Secretariat is headed by a Secretary-General who is appointed for a three-year term by the Council of Ministers from member states in alphabetical order [1]. Currently, the Secretariat is located at Tridevi Sadak, Kathmandu, and serves as the primary channel of communication between the eight member nations: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka [2].
