The Special Provisions in Article 371G of the Constitution of India relate to the state of:
Explanation
Article 371G of the Constitution of India contains special provisions specifically for the state of Mizoram [2]. Inserted by the 53rd Constitutional Amendment Act of 1986, this article ensures that Acts of Parliament regarding Mizo religious or social practices, Mizo customary law and procedure, administration of civil and criminal justice involving Mizo customary law, and ownership and transfer of land do not apply to the state unless the Mizoram Legislative Assembly passes a resolution to that effect [2]. These protections are designed to safeguard the unique cultural identity and indigenous rights of the Mizo people [2]. Similar protections exist for Nagaland under Article 371A, but Article 371G is distinctively for Mizoram. Additionally, the article stipulates that the Mizoram Legislative Assembly must consist of at least 40 members [2].
