Where is the Central Coffee Research Institute situated?

The Central Coffee Research Institute (CCRI) is located in Balehonnur, Chikmagalur district of Karnataka [t1][t3]. Established as the Mysore Coffee Experimental Station in 1925, it was later handed over to the Coffee Board in 1946 to conduct systematic research on coffee cultivation [t9]. Karnataka is the most suitable location for this premier institute as the state accounts for more than two-thirds of India's total coffee production [c1]. The institute is a leading organization in South East Asia, focusing on disciplines such as Plant Breeding, Agronomy, and Biotechnology to improve the productivity and quality of Arabica and Robusta varieties [t5][t9]. While it maintains regional stations in other states like Kerala (Chundale) and Andhra Pradesh (Narasipatnam), the main headquarters remains at Balehonnur [t7].
