Q32 (IAS/1996) History & Culture › Culture, Literature, Religion & Philosophy › Jain doctrine and sects Answer Verified

Which one of the following is not a part of early Jaina literature ?

Result
Your answer: —  Â·  Correct: A
Explanation

Therigatha is a collection of short verses attributed to early Buddhist women disciples (theris) and forms part of the Theravada Buddhist canon, not Jain literature [1]. By contrast, the Acaranga (Acharanga) Sutra, Sutrakritanga and the Brihat Kalpa/Kalpasutra are all recognised works within the Jain tradition — early Jaina canonical or sectarian texts dealing with monastic conduct, doctrine and ritual . Therefore Therigatha (option 1) is not part of early Jaina literature, while the other three options belong to the corpus of early Jain texts.
