He was a prominent revolutionary leader based in Bengal, best known for leading the Chittagong Armoury Raid in 1930, which was a separate event from the HRA's activities in Northern India. While Bismil, Khan, and Lahiri were the faces of the Kakori trial, Surya Sen's revolutionary activities were centered in the eastern part of the country under the banner of the Indian Republican Army.
