The world`s highest ground-based telescopic observatory is located in India.
The observatory is known as the Hanle Observatory or the Indian Astronomical Observatory. It is situated in the Hanle village of Ladakh region in Jammu and Kashmir, India. The location of the observatory at an altitude of about 4,500 meters (14,764 feet) above sea level makes it the highest ground-based observatory in the world. The high altitude and clear skies of the region provide excellent conditions for astronomical observations. The Hanle Observatory is operated by the Indian Institute of Astrophysics and is used for various astronomical research activities.
