The Battle of Rezang La, an epic battle in hostile conditions, was fought by the Indian Army in :
Explanation
The Battle of Rezang La was fought on November 18, 1962, during the Sino-Indian War. It is regarded as one of the greatest "last stands" in military history, taking place at an altitude of over 16,000 feet in the Chushul sector of Ladakh.
- Heroic Stand: The 'C' Company of the 13th Kumaon Regiment, consisting of 120 soldiers, defended the pass against waves of thousands of Chinese troops.
- Leadership: Led by Major Shaitan Singh, the company fought until the "last man, last round." Major Singh was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India's highest wartime gallantry award, for his extraordinary leadership and bravery.
- Conditions: The battle was fought in extreme sub-zero temperatures and hostile terrain without adequate artillery support.
The Indian soldiers successfully inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy, significantly delaying their advance. A memorial at Rezang La commemorates the 114 soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice.
