The Radcliffe Committee was appointed to delimit the boundaries between India and Pakistan. The committee was formed in 1947 to divide British India into two countries, India and Pakistan, based on religious lines. The committee was headed by Sir Cyril Radcliffe, a British lawyer who had never visited India before. The committee`s recommendations were accepted and formed the basis for the Partition of India. The boundary lines drawn by the committee were contentious and resulted in widespread violence and displacement of people during the partition.
