True Feminism must be intersectional or it is incomplete In the streets of Los Angeles, there were women marching on the road fighting for equality and equal rights reducing the discrimination. They were chanting the slogans "We are no less than Men even we need agency similar to the Men". On the flipside, in a rural village in Africa, a young woman was walking carrying water upon her head to meet the requirements of drinking water of her family. In the above story, we can see the paradox where women are fighting for empowerment and better agency on one side while on the other, a similar woman is struggling physically for meeting the subsistence needs of her family. Isn't this intriguing to see two different sides of a same coin with spatial variation.

Feminism across one section isn't trickling to the other sections as seen here. In this essay, lets see what is intersectionality and why should there be intersectionality in feminism and what happens if there is no intersectionality finally how can feminism be intersectional? Intersectionality put in other words is called inclusivity that is it should cover all sections of the society. This inclusivity should cut across castes, class, religion, geographies. When feminism trickles through all these headlines, then the Feminism becomes an overarching empowerment and intersectional in nature. Why should there be intersectionality? The answer is simple, it is to achieve true empowerment of women which is inclusive, sustainable and to achieve goals which are not just tokenistic but worthwhile. Indian ethos of Gandhi's Talisman and the principle of Antyodaya calls for intersectionality in any field. According to this philosophy, result of any action or decision taken has to be taken by keeping in mind the last and vulnerable member of the society. "Will my action or decision restore power to him/her?" when Similarly, when global feminist movements think and fight on the lines of Talisman there emerges true feminism which is intersectional.

In this present world, there are ongoing feminist movements fighting for problems which are peripheral in character and not for deep rooted issues which is termed as bubble gum feminism. Likewise, feminist movements of such type results in women empowerment that covers only few cream sections of the society ignoring the vulnerable. one such Feminism has always been demands of the society since history right from Gargi-Yajnavalkya dialogue to present feminist movements like "#Me Too". one such example of true feminist demand is Malala Yousafzai's struggle for women's education and equal rights at par with men in the traditional muslim country of Pakistan where women's freedom is considered least priority and a case of blasphemy. So, the agency of women has to cut across all these boundaries to ensure that women in industrialised world like Europe and America are at similar pedestal with women in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Africa. What happens if there is no intersectionality? It results in varying degrees of freedom horizontally across the societies and vertically across the caste, religion and class in a same society. Is this the true success of feminist movements? The answer is no as the results in such case are only myopic in nature. Constitutions all across the world have provisions for welfare of women and their implementation depends upon the case to case basis. Intersectional feminism is a holistic phenomena encompassing all the sections and furthering the constitutional morality. Absence of intersectionality is a feminism that serves interests of specific sections of people while simultaneously hindering other's right to live a dignified life.

How can feminism be intersectional? It can be done in many ways. one is to include women from all sections of the society promoting inclusivity in representation which results in intersectionality of feminism. In addition to the above manner, another way is to stand for the women who cannot due to multiplicity of hurdles. Performing such actions require deep empathy and understand other's point of view. Empathy when paired with compassion results in true struggle rewarding intersectional outcomes. An amazing example of such case is 'Ela Bhatt' who found SEWA - a cooperative which empowered not only the founder but thousands of rural women who because of economic empowerment gained social agency resulting in reducing disparities between the male and the female. At the individual level, by encouraging women in home participate democratically in household decisions, true feminism can be achieved. Similarly at the societal level, encouraging women's contribution ensuring inclusivity of all the sections, cumulative growth can be achieved which fits the triple helix of intersectionality, inclusivity and true empowerment. Similar to the Indian freedom movement, where people from many sections of society participated and achieved success, a similar framework in feminism leads to achievement of true success. The true success that is not only enjoyed by women in Los Angeles but also the woman carrying water upon her head in Africa. As BR Ambedkar said "I measure the progress a society has achieved by the progress achieved by women", this progress encompasses inclusive progress which makes it complete.
