However, it faces societal challenges, wherein people still face Untouchability practices and unequal treatment. India has come a far way since the abolishing of caste based discrimination, yet it is still practiced and followed in many regions of the nation. This can be tackled by further stringent surveillance of such practices, and bringing a change in the mindset of the public. This will reduce the societal inequalities while maintaining India's integral Constitutional Equality. Similarly, technological advancement also showcases a potential risk of unemployment due to lack of skills. Innovations in the field of Artificial Intelligence [AI] poses a threat to the uneducated citizen of India leading to unemployment. The government of India has introduced many platforms like SKILL INDIA, that provide upskilling at nominal cost or free to prevent and reduce unemployment. The platform provides various courses which are relevant to current developments in leading industries of engineering, science, technology and much more. From an economical standpoint, the nation's approach to growth is using the trickle down methodology, wherein the state provides more support to leading industries which then further trickle down to the lower economic sections of society. While this may seem unfair, capitalism and growth of leading industries help build a foundation for the nation to grow on, which ironically supports the lower economic sections through government schemes and rations.

One of the largest ironies that can be seen in Indian society is how women are treated. In India, traditional households restrict the growth and development of females by not providing them education in her childhood, yet they same households will pray for good education to goddess Saraswati in Hinduism. Similarly, in Hinduism practices, goddess Durga and laxmi are symbolised for protection and prosperity respectively. However, ironically, daily women face with atrocities from their surrounding environments due to rape and sexual assault and/or 'dahej' that is dowry demands from their in-laws. This has been gradually changing and improving in India with the help of liberalisation, education and development of the mindset of society.

Social Media has brought the access to every nook and corner of the world at the touch of a button with the help of globalisation. While this has strengthened long distance connections and accessibility with ease, it is a double edge sword. Contrarily, social media has also largely isolated due to overstimulation and accumulation of information and connections, leading to high risks of depression, mental pressure and anxiety. Social media trends of "living in the moment" are also captured, which are often staged and shot multiple times to get the perfect content. The Government of India has provided various helplines related to suicide risks, mental health issues and many Non-profit organisations [NGOs] also provide further help by counselling sessions and guidance on how to balance the double edged sword, that is, social media.

Personal Reflection on Life's Ironies
371 3
Words: 371
Target: 80-150

With great power comes great responsibility. The statement reflects how freedom and power it is crucial to lead life as a responsible individual. Power might bring money and materialistic satisfaction, yet an individual can still be dissatisfied in their personal life. Contrastingly, a person with an economically weak lifestyle who does not have any materialistic desires or attachments might still be happy in personal life as they are free of such desires, and pressures of providing and having such responsibilities. This is a reminder to be grateful and have gratitude of whatever experiences life may bring to you, yet to continue to strive for better out of sheer curiosity and learning through more experiences. The same concept can be reflected in the story of the monk who sold his Ferrari. A similar thinking can be seen in Plato's school of thought; who believed that the Philosopher King and Guardian class should be free of materialistic desires and on the opposite, the producer class should have materialistic attachments like having a family and a property. The irony here is the higher an individual climbs up the ladder of power, the more they are void of having materialistic desires. This is because Plato believed such desires can be distracting for the Guardian class and especially the Philosopher King, making them weaker and potentially risking them as an easy target. With such material desires gone, according to Plato the Philosopher King and guardians will be more focused on protection, enrichment and prosperity of the State. Additionally, it is the parent who nourishes the child and as they both grow older, it is the child or adult who then looks after the parent in old age. This irony is faced by almost every human being in the world, which is such a bittersweet moment. A personal reflection related to the irony of life is when I left home to pursue my further education. While being away from home was tough, the childhood memories and values taught by my family carried me through this experience. Leaving home with a heavy heart was necessary for my individual growth. The irony is that life can only be learnt from and mussed upon by retrospecting and reflecting the past.

Professor's Remark

"The introduction sets an intriguing tone but lacks depth and clarity in presenting the central argument. It needs to engage the reader more effectively."

What I Liked

"The connection drawn between oxymorons and the complexities of life is a good thematic start."

What I Found Weak

"The opening lacks a strong hook and the thesis is somewhat generic, failing to establish a clear, debatable position."

What Would Push Higher

"Consider starting with a more compelling hook and clearly articulating a debatable thesis that engages with the theme of life's ironies."

Your Introduction Ingredients
Current: Hook, Thesis, Roadmap.
Target: Hook + Thesis + Roadmap

You Have:
  • None well-defined.
You Need:
  • A compelling hook Hook
  • A clear thesis statement Thesis
  • A roadmap of what is to come Roadmap
A well-crafted introduction draws readers in through an engaging hook, presents a strong thesis, and previews the essay's structure, setting a purposeful tone for the exploration ahead.
The Hook: Your First 10 Words

The hook is your opening punch. It should make the examiner's eyebrows rise, create a question in their mind, or present a tension that demands resolution. Definitions don't do this. Questions, paradoxes, and vivid scenarios do.

Most students start with 'X has been important since ancient times.' This is true but boring. Your hook should be surprising, not safe.

Hook Score (S01) 30/100
Your Hook Attempt Sentence 1

"Oxymorons reflect the ironies of life."

No Hook Detected
Effectiveness: This statement is a bit abstract and does not immediately engage the reader's curiosity or interest.
What's Missing: A more provocative or imaginative opening could better capture attention.
Choose an alternative
Hook Alternatives
1 Provocative Question

"What if the contradictions we face in life are the very essence of living?"

Why it works: This question invites the reader to think deeply about the paradoxes in their own life experiences.

2 Paradox Hook

"In a world of clear choices, we often find ourselves encircled by contradictions."

Why it works: This presents a clear paradox that connects to the theme of oxymorons while intriguing the reader.

3 Scenario Hook

"Imagine a friendship where one thrives in wealth and the other in destitution — yet they remain inseparable."

Why it works: This scenario establishes a relatable context that draws readers in and introduces the theme of unexpected connections.

Weak Openings to Avoid
  • X has been important since ancient times.
  • In today's world, X is very relevant.
  • X is a topic of great significance.
  • Since time immemorial, X has...
  • X can be defined as...
Examiner Psychology

"The first sentence tells the examiner who they're dealing with. A definition says 'average student.' A paradox says 'someone who thinks differently.' First impressions stick."

Foundation: Thesis + Roadmap

Your thesis is your promise to the reader - what you're going to prove. Your roadmap is the journey you'll take them on. Together, they set up your entire essay. A weak foundation means the examiner isn't sure where you're going.

Thesis without a position is just a topic sentence. Roadmap without anticipation is just a table of contents.

Thesis Score (S02) 50/100
Your Thesis Attempt Sentence 4

"In this essay, I will be showcasing different examples to present the ironies of life."

Effectiveness: While this does state intent, it lacks a clear argument and is not debatable.
What's Missing: A more assertive and debatable thesis is needed to provide a strong analytical direction.
Thesis Upgrades
1 Crisp Stand

"Life's complexities reveal that the very contradictions we face are not obstacles, but essential experiences that shape our humanity."

Why it works: This thesis presents a clear stance on how oxymorons reflect life’s nature, inviting debate and exploration.

2 Debatable Angle

"While society presents a façade of clarity, the irony is that our deepest connections emerge from chaos and contradiction."

Why it works: This acknowledges a counter perspective and establishes a clear position for discussion.

3 Sophisticated Balance

"Though often seen as contradictions, oxymorons encapsulate the truths of human experience, revealing that clarity and chaos coexist within our lives."

Why it works: It acknowledges the complexity of life in a nuanced way, preparing the ground for exploration in the body.

Thesis Types Reference

Clear, direct position with analytical edge

Template: [X] is [position] because [reason that can be debated].
If no one could disagree, it's not a thesis.
Debatable Angle

Acknowledge counter-view, then take position

Template: While critics argue [counter-view], this essay contends [your position].
Show you know the debate, then pick a side.
Sophisticated Balance

Embrace complexity with a nuanced position

Template: [X] is both [A] and [opposite of A] - and [implication of this duality].
Nuance signals intellectual maturity.

Roadmap Score (S03) 40/100
Your Roadmap Attempt Sentence Not present

"Not present"

Effectiveness: A clear roadmap outlining the structure is absent, which is crucial for guiding the reader.
What's Missing: An effective roadmap should provide a sneak peek into key examples without revealing everything.

Why it works: This maintains a narrative flow, suggesting how each section contributes to the theme.

2 Question-Based

"How do societal structures trap us in contradictions, what role do gender norms play, and how do our personal experiences reflect these ironies?"

Why it works: This format invites curiosity and gives a clear sense of what will be tackled in each section.

3 Thematic Preview

"From societal contrasts to personal epiphanies, this discussion unfolds the layers of life's inherent ironies."

Why it works: It teases thematic elements without detailing specifics, creating intrigue about the exploration ahead.

Roadmap Types Reference
Natural Flow

Weave structure into narrative without listing

Template: To understand [theme], we must first [section 1], then [section 2], and finally [section 3 with tension].
Hide the list inside a story.
Question-Based

Frame structure as questions to be answered

Template: Three questions guide this inquiry: [Q1]? [Q2]? [Q3]?
Questions create curiosity. Readers want answers.
Thematic Preview

Drop intriguing references without explaining

Template: From [intriguing reference 1] to [intriguing reference 2] - this essay maps [terrain].
Tease, don't spoil. Make them want to know more.
Examiner Psychology

Thesis: "A clear thesis tells the examiner 'I'm going to argue something.' This creates anticipation and gives them a lens to evaluate your essay. No thesis = no argument = lower marks."

Roadmap: "A good roadmap tells the examiner 'this essay is organized and going somewhere interesting.' A list tells them 'this student is mechanical.' Anticipation beats information."

Distinguished Introduction

What if the contradictions we face in life are the very essence of living? The friendship of Krishna and Sudama illustrates a profound truth: that despite their vastly different material circumstances, their spiritual bond remains unbroken. This duality reflects the essence of oxymorons, which reveal that life’s greatest truths often lie within its contradictions. This essay will explore the ironies woven into the tapestry of life, traversing societal inequalities, gender dynamics, and personal anecdotes that uncover the complexities inherent in our human experience.

What Changed in Each Layer
hook

A provocative question was added to engage the reader from the outset.

thesis

A clearer argument was crafted that encapsulates the essay’s direction.

roadmap

A thematic preview was included to outline the key discussion points.

language

Enhanced vocabulary and sentence structures were employed to elevate the overall style.

Introduction Structure Blueprint
Ideal Structure
  1. Hook (attention)
  2. Thesis (promise)
  3. Roadmap (anticipation)
Common Mistake
  1. Definition
  2. Vague statement
  3. List of sections
