At which place did Raja Ranjit Singh set up the Adalat-i-Ala ?

Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the founder of the Sikh Empire, established a centralized judicial system where the Adalat-i-Ala (High Court) was set up at Lahore, his capital. The judicial administration was not governed by a formal written code but relied on local customs, traditions, and religious laws. While the Maharaja himself was the supreme authority and the final court of appeal, the Adalat-i-Ala in Lahore functioned as the principal court for the central administration. In the provinces, justice was administered by Nazims and Kardars, while at the grassroots level, Panchayats resolved disputes in villages. Although Amritsar was the spiritual and commercial hub of the empire, Lahore served as the administrative and judicial seat where the Adalat-i-Ala was located.
