Your answer: —  Â·  Correct: D

Explanation

The Treaty of Sugauli, ratified in 1816, concluded the Anglo-Nepalese War (1814–1816) between the British East India Company and the Kingdom of Nepal. Under the terms of this treaty, Nepal ceded the territories of Kumaon and Garhwal to the British. As a result, hill stations like Nainital and Ranikhet, which are located in the Kumaon region, came under British possession. Shimla was also acquired by the British after the Gurkhas were driven out of the hill states between the Sutlej and Yamuna rivers during the war. Kathmandu remained the sovereign capital of Nepal and was never annexed by the British; the treaty only mandated the placement of a British Resident in the city. Therefore, sites 2, 3, and 4 were obtained by the Company.
