Kushanas were the descendants of which of the following Central Asian Tribes?
Explanation
The Kushanas were a branch of the Yueh-chi (Yuezhi) people, a nomadic tribe originally inhabiting Central Asia near the borders of China. In the 2nd century BCE, the Yueh-chi were defeated and driven out of their homeland by the Hiung-nu (Xiongnu) tribe.
Following this defeat, the Yueh-chi split into two groups: the Little Yueh-chi, who settled in the Tibetan highlands, and the Great Yueh-chi, who migrated westward towards the Oxus valley (Bactria). The Great Yueh-chi were divided into five principalities. One of these, the Kuei-shuang (Kushanas), eventually unified the five tribes under the leadership of Kujula Kadphises to establish the Kushan Empire, which later expanded into Northern India.
