If the 1st of January of a non-leap year is a Monday, then which one of the following days will the 31st of December of that year be ?
Explanation
A non-leap year consists of 365 days. To determine the day on December 31st, we calculate the number of days that have passed since January 1st. There are 365 - 1 = 364 days between January 1st and December 31st.
Since a week has 7 days, we divide the difference by 7: 364 ÷ 7 = 52 weeks exactly, with 0 remainder (odd days). When the number of days between two dates is a multiple of 7, the day of the week remains the same. Therefore, if January 1st is a Monday, December 31st must also be a Monday.
As a general rule, in a non-leap year, the first and last days of the year are always the same. In a leap year (366 days), the last day is one day ahead of the first day because of the extra day in February.
