Q73 (CISF/2025) Economy › Industry, Infrastructure & Investment

Which one of the following is the 14th Central Public Sector Enterprise to obtain the status of Maharatna ?

Result
Your answer:  ·  Correct: C

Explanation

In October 2024, the Department of Public Enterprises, Ministry of Finance, upgraded Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) to the status of a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE). This makes HAL the 14th CPSE to join the Maharatna club. Previously, Oil India Limited (OIL) was the 13th company to receive this status in August 2023.

The Maharatna status grants the board of directors enhanced financial powers, allowing them to make investments up to ₹5,000 crore or 15% of their net worth in a single project without prior government approval. SAIL and GAIL are already Maharatna companies, having received the status in 2010 and 2013 respectively. DMRC (Delhi Metro Rail Corporation) is a joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of Delhi and does not hold Maharatna status.
