Kamarajar Port, formerly known as Ennore Port, is located on the Coromandel Coast in the state of Tamil Nadu. It was commissioned in June 2001 as India's 12th major port and holds the unique distinction of being the country's first and only corporatized major port [1]. The port was specifically developed to handle thermal coal requirements for the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) and to decongest the nearby Chennai Port, which is situated approximately 25 km to its south [1]. While it initially focused on coastal coal from Odisha and Visakhapatnam to feed local thermal power stations, it has since expanded into a multi-cargo facility handling automobiles, containers, and liquid cargo [1].
