The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which were adopted by the UNO in place of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), 2015, aim to achieve the 17 goals by the year
Explanation
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, were adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015 as a universal call to action [2]. They replaced the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which had a deadline of 2015 [5]. The SDGs consist of 17 integrated goals and 169 targets designed to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure peace and prosperity for all by the year 2030 [8]. This framework is officially referred to as the '2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development' [7]. The goals came into force on January 1, 2016, and emphasize a fifteen-year period of global mobilization to address social, economic, and environmental sustainability [6]. India and other member states have committed to localizing these targets to ensure progress for those furthest behind by the 2030 deadline [5].
