The Swadeshi Movement evoked serious responses in
Explanation
The Swadeshi Movement (1905–1911) was triggered by the British decision to partition Bengal, which was the nerve center of Indian nationalist activity [1]. While the movement originated in Bengal as a spontaneous reaction involving mass meetings and the boycott of foreign goods, it quickly spread to other provinces. Maharashtra emerged as a major center of the movement under the leadership of Bal Gangadhar Tilak, who utilized the Ganapati and Shivaji festivals to mobilize public support and advocate for the boycott of British goods [3]. Tilak played a pivotal role in transforming the regional agitation into a national struggle, spreading the slogans of Swaraj and Swadeshi from Bengal to the Bombay Presidency. Although support existed in Madras and northern India, the most serious and sustained responses outside of Bengal were concentrated in Maharashtra [3].
