Consider the following features of newer models of motor cars : I. Radial tyres II. Streamlined body III. Multipoint fuel injection IV. Catalytic converter with exhaust Which of these features make the newer models of motor cars more fuel efficient ?
Explanation
A streamlined body reduces aerodynamic drag and therefore lowers fuel consumption at speed by cutting the work the engine must do to overcome air resistance [1]. Multipoint (multi‑port) fuel injection gives far better control over air–fuel mixture and timing than older carburettor systems, improving combustion efficiency and reducing specific fuel consumption [2]. By contrast, catalytic converters are fitted primarily to reduce harmful exhaust pollutants (NOx, CO, HC) rather than to improve fuel economy; their purpose is emission control rather than increasing engine efficiency [2]. Hence, the combination of streamlined body and multipoint fuel injection (II and III) best explains increased fuel efficiency in newer models.
