The 58th Jnanpith Award for the year 2023 was jointly conferred upon two distinguished personalities: the celebrated Urdu poet and lyricist Gulzar (Sampooran Singh Kalra) and the renowned Sanskrit scholar and spiritual leader Jagadguru Rambhadracharya. Jagadguru Rambhadracharya, a polyglot who speaks 22 languages and has authored over 100 books, is only the second Sanskrit scholar to receive this honor after Satyavrat Shastri.

The Jnanpith Award is India's highest literary honor, instituted in 1961 by the Bharatiya Jnanpith. The first Jnanpith Award was presented in 1965 to the Malayalam writer G. Sankara Kurup for his poetry collection Odakkuzhal (The Bamboo Flute). The award is presented annually to Indian authors for their outstanding contribution to literature in any of the languages included in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution and English.
