The Sylhet Referendum was held in ?

Result
Your answer: —  ·  Correct: A

Explanation

The Sylhet Referendum was held on July 6 and 7, 1947. It was a plebiscite conducted to decide whether the Sylhet district of the then-province of Assam would remain in India or join the East Bengal province of the newly formed dominion of Pakistan.

The referendum was held under the provisions of the Mountbatten Plan (3rd June Plan). The majority of the population voted in favor of joining Pakistan. Following the result and the subsequent demarcation by the Radcliffe Commission, most of Sylhet became part of East Pakistan (now Bangladesh), while a small portion (the Karimganj region) remained with India. This event was a critical part of the administrative process of the Partition of India in 1947.
