Correct:
B
Explanation
According to the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, the Chairperson or any Member of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) can be removed from office only by the President of India.
- Removal Procedure: The President can remove the Chairperson or a Member on the ground of proved misbehaviour or incapacity. However, in these cases, the President must refer the matter to the Supreme Court for an inquiry. If the Supreme Court, after the inquiry, upholds the grounds for removal, the President can then issue the removal order.
- Other Grounds: The President can also remove them without a Supreme Court inquiry if they are adjudged insolvent, engage in paid employment outside their office, are unfit due to infirmity of mind or body, are of unsound mind, or are convicted and sentenced to imprisonment for an offence involving moral turpitude.
