The 1929 session of the Indian National Congress, also known as the Lahore session, is significant in the history of the Freedom Movement because it adopted the resolution for complete independence, also known as Poorna Swaraj. This resolution was moved by Jawaharlal Nehru and passed on December 31, 1929. The Congress declared that January 26, 1930, would be celebrated as Independence Day, and the national flag would be hoisted on that day. The Lahore session was attended by many prominent leaders of the Freedom Movement, including Mahatma Gandhi, who was not the president of the Congress that year but attended the session as a delegate. The adoption of Poorna Swaraj as the goal of the Congress marked a significant shift in the Congress`s demand for self-government to complete independence. The resolution also gave a new impetus to the Freedom Movement and led to the launch of the Civil Disobedience Movement in 1930.
