In Afghanistan, the two towering Buddha statues were destroyed in Bamiyan. Bamiyan is a historical site located in the central part of the country. These Buddha statues were carved into the cliffs in the 6th century and were considered as significant cultural and historical relics. Unfortunately, in 2001, the Taliban regime in Afghanistan carried out the intentional destruction of the statues using dynamite and artillery. This act was widely condemned by the international community, as it not only caused the loss of precious cultural heritage but also symbolized the Taliban`s disregard for religious diversity and cultural tolerance. The destruction of the Buddha statues in Bamiyan highlighted the rise of extremism and the destruction of cultural heritage in conflict zones.
