Ashok spread Buddhism all over India and Ceylon by sending the Dharma Mahamatras. Dharma Mahamatras were government officials appointed by Ashok to promote and propagate Buddhist teachings. They traveled to different regions and conveyed Ashok`s message of peace, non-violence, and moral conduct to the people. They also helped in establishing Buddhist monasteries and temples and organizing religious gatherings. The Dharma Mahamatras played a crucial role in popularizing Buddhism and ensuring its expansion throughout Ashok`s empire. This method of spreading Buddhism was in line with Ashok`s policy of non-violence and his belief in the power of persuasion and moral teachings. Through the efforts of the Dharma Mahamatras, Buddhism gained a strong foothold and flourished in India and Ceylon.
