In Indian elections, there is a necessary security deposit for candidates to deter frivolous candidates. This differs by type of election and category of candidate.

Option 1 suggests the deposit is Rs 5,000 for general category candidates and Rs 2,500 for SC/ST category candidates. Option 2 suggests it is Rs 10,000 and Rs 2,500 respectively.

However, the correct deposit amount, as given in option 3, is Rs 10,000 for general category candidates and Rs 5,000 for candidates of the SC/ST category. This is as laid out in the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

Option 4, which suggests Rs 15,000 for a general category and Rs 7,500 for SC/ST is not true as per the election rules of India. The more significant general category deposit reflects the easier access these candidates generally have to resources. The lower SC/ST deposit reflects efforts to encourage wider participation in the electoral process from these socially disadvantaged communities.
