In May 2003, Russian President Vladimir Putin invited more than 40 heads of states/governments for a grand event. However, it was not to address Topic 1: `Issues related to rehabilitation of Iraq`, as the event was not a diplomatic discussion on war recovery. Nor was the meeting regarding Topic 3: `A meeting of European and CIS countries to discuss the issue of missile shield`. This would involve international defense strategy and not historical celebrations. Similarly, Topic 4: `Develop strategies for containing global terrorism`, is also off the mark, as the purpose was not centered around strategizing on terrorism containment issues. The correct answer is thus option 2: `Celebrate the tricentenary of the city of St Petersburg`. This celebration marked the 300th anniversary of Saint Petersburg, a historic city in Russia, which explains why so many world leaders were invited to share in the commemoration.
