The Ninth Schedule of the Constitution of India was added by the First Amendment in 1951 during the prime ministership of Jawaharlal Nehru. It was introduced to protect the laws related to land reforms and abolishing the Zamindari system from being challenged in the court of law. Over the years, many other laws related to a variety of subjects were added to the Ninth Schedule to protect them from judicial review, with the aim of ensuring their effective implementation. This led to some controversy as it was seen as undermining the independence of the judiciary and the Constitution`s basic structure. However, the Supreme Court of India has upheld the validity of the Ninth Schedule subject to certain limitations.
