A parliamentary system of government is one in which the government is responsible to the parliament and can be removed by it. This means that the executive (government) branch of government is accountable to the legislative (parliament) branch and must have the support of the majority of the members in the parliament to remain in power. The government is formed by the party or coalition of parties that commands a majority in the parliament, and it remains in power as long as it continues to enjoy the confidence of the parliament. If the government loses the confidence of the parliament, it can be removed through a vote of no confidence, leading to the formation of a new government.
