Your answer: —  Â·  Correct: A

Explanation

The Indian Independence Act 1947 was an Act of the British Parliament (Parliament of the United Kingdom). It was based on the Mountbatten Plan (June 3 Plan) and received Royal Assent on July 18, 1947. The Act provided for the partition of British India into two independent dominions, India and Pakistan, effective from August 15, 1947. It abolished the office of the Viceroy and the Secretary of State for India, transferring all powers to the respective Constituent Assemblies of the new dominions. The Indian Parliament did not exist in its current form until after the first general elections (1951-52), and the Central Legislative Assembly was the legislature of British India which lacked the sovereign authority to grant independence.
