The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) Act was amended in 2009, following the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, to allow the deployment of CISF in the private sector on a cost-recovery basis. The primary mandate for such deployment is to provide a security umbrella against anti-national and terrorist threats. Unlike in Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), where CISF may handle comprehensive security, its role in the private sector is specialized. It is primarily deployed as a Quick Reaction Team (QRT) to serve as the first responder in case of an attack.
