On 9th August, the freedom fighters executed the Kakori Mail train robbery. This activity was carried out by a group of revolutionaries led by Ram Prasad Bismil. The objective behind this robbery was to obtain funds for their revolutionary activities against the British rule. The group targeted a train carrying government funds, known as the Kakori Express. They looted the money and escaped, but were eventually arrested and put on trial. This incident later became a significant event in the history of the Indian independence movement. It is important to note that while the Quit India Movement, Salt Satyagraha, Boycott of Simon Commission, and Champaran Satyagraha were all important events in the timeline of the freedom struggle, they did not specifically occur on 9th August.
