Its main role is to examine the public accounts and reports of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India. The Chairman of the PAC is responsible for leading the committee and overseeing its work. In India, the Speaker of Lok Sabha is the head of the lower house of Parliament and has the authority to appoint the Chairman of the PAC. The President of India, Prime Minister of India, and the Chairman of Rajya Sabha do not have the power to appoint the Chairman of the PAC.
