The national motto of India, ‘Satyameva Jayate’, is a Sanskrit phrase which means "Truth alone triumphs" or "Truth alone prevails". It is taken from the ancient Indian scripture Mundaka Upanishad, which is a collection of spiritual texts written in Sanskrit. The Mundaka Upanishad is one of the primary Upanishads and is considered to be one of the most important texts in the Vedanta school of Hindu philosophy. The national emblem of India, which features four lions standing back to back, was adopted on 26th January 1950, and the motto was added beneath it. The motto reflects the idea that truth and righteousness will ultimately triumph over falsehood and evil.
