Explanation
The Veliconda (or Velikonda) group of low hills is a structural part of the Eastern Ghats mountain range system [2]. Located in southeastern Andhra Pradesh, these hills trend north-south and form the eastern flank of the Eastern Ghats. Geologically, they are relicts of ancient mountains that were strongly folded and faulted, likely elevated during the Cambrian Period. The range is situated between the Krishna and Pennar rivers, alongside other parallel ranges like the Nallamala, Palkonda, and Erramala [3]. Unlike the Western Ghats, which are continuous and higher in elevation, the Eastern Ghats are highly dissected and discontinuous, broken by major rivers like the Godavari and Krishna [4]. The Velikonda Range specifically represents the lower, easternmost section of the central Eastern Ghats before they merge into the coastal plains.
