What meant by Organ Culture?
Explanation
Organ culture is a specialized technique in biotechnology where a whole organ or a representative part of it is removed from an organism and maintained in vitro. Unlike tissue culture, where cells may lose their structural organization [1], organ culture aims to preserve the three-dimensional structure, histological integrity, and physiological function of the organ. This is typically achieved by placing the organ at the gas-medium interface, often using partial immersion in a nutrient fluid or support on a raft. This method ensures that the specialized cells, which are organized into tissues and organs to perform specific functions [3], retain their spatial relationships and differentiated states. It is distinct from the synthesis of new organs or genetic mutation strategies, focusing instead on the survival and study of existing anatomical structures outside the host body .
