Members of Rajya Sabha are elected for a term of 6 years. This is different from the term of Members of Lok Sabha, who are elected for a term of 5 years.

In the Rajya Sabha, one-third of the members retire every two years, which means that the Rajya Sabha is a continuous body and does not dissolve like the Lok Sabha. This system ensures a level of stability and continuity in the functioning of the upper house of Parliament.

The members of Rajya Sabha are elected by the elected members of the Legislative Assemblies of the States and Union territories. The election process is conducted through the system of proportional representation by means of a single transferable vote.

It`s important to note that while the term of Rajya Sabha members is 6 years, they can also resign or be disqualified from their membership before the completion of their term. However, the normal tenure is 6 years, and every two years, there is a rotation of members to maintain the continuity of the Rajya Sabha.
