The Mansabdari system was introduced by Akbar. The word "Mansab" means rank or position, and the system was a unique military administrative system that Akbar implemented to effectively manage his vast empire. Under this system, every officer in the Mughal army was given a rank or mansab, which determined their salary, number of troops under their command, and other privileges. The ranks ranged from 10 to 10,000, with the highest rank held by the emperor himself.
